Guitar Update #1

My dad and I finished the design of the headstock and here is the result:

Other progress since the last update:

1. After hours of toiling with the intonation, the G and low E strings are as far back in their saddle as possible and the twelfth fret is still 2 Hz sharp compared to the open note. Maybe a new bridge will sort it out, however, it is currently annoying the hell out of me that when ever I play a D minor chord the fifth between the D and G strings is out.

2. Installed a vintage style pickup at the neck (while learning just how terrible I am at soldering) and ended up quite disappointed. There was a greater clarity than the cheap pick-ups that came with the kit but lacked power in the lower frequencies and had a much lower output which made it a little harder to over drive the preamp.

Hindsight is fun, though. I ended up picking up a pack of DR pure blues strings which added a lot of bottom compared to the D’Addario’s that were on previously. I have to think maybe these strings would have mated better with the other pick ups and now I’m left trying to decide whether or not I want to bother with the swap again.
